Orinoco Delta
The Orinoco Delta in eastern Venezuela is a vast labyrinth of rivers, canals and mangrove forests where the Orinoco River fans out into the Atlantic. Home to the indigenous Warao people (meaning "people of the canoes"), the delta is rich in wildlife – from river dolphins and caimans to countless bird species. Remote, humid and intensely biodiverse, it offers one of the most atmospheric nature experiences in South America.
Guests stay at the Orinoco Delta Lodge, a jungle lodge in the heart of the delta. The eleven cabins are rustic yet comfortable, with architecture inspired by indigenous Warao culture, and the cuisine is delicious. The two- and three-night packages include excursions to explore the rivers and jungle led by indigenous guides, wildlife watching, canoeing, kayaking, visits to indigenous communities, piranha fishing, and watching the sunset in the company of dolphins.
